David Wilson

I am David Wilson, the senior pastor of Redeemer Parish. I am also a native Eastern Pennsylvanian, having been raised in a suburb of Philadelphia. Meeting my wife Gale, a native of Western Pennsylvania while we were undergraduate students at Penn State ensured that soon after marriage we would move west to Pittsburgh. Yinzers never live further than fifty miles from where they were born. In my former life as a real person, I worked as a construction worker, a carpenter, a steelworker, an International Trade Specialist for the US Department of Commerce, an Executive Director of an evangelism ministry and as the Director of Finance and Administration of a missionary sending agency. Each job provided great training to be an all around pastor! While working at these several vocations Gale and raised two children; son Greg and daughter Hannah. Greg now lives in the North Hills of Pittsburgh, teaches eighth grade English, and coaches soccer and track. Greg is married to Amanda and they are the parents of Matthew, their son and our first grandchild. Hannah is a senior fashion designer for Ralph Lauren and lives and works in New York City.

I love to read, especially history and spy novels, play and watch sports and am a beer aficionado. Plus I have been at times a joyful hacker on the golf course. The current joy of our lives is our dog Sherman. His is a PBGV – a small dog who thinks he is big dog. He has a big nose, big ears, big feet, a big howl and a very big heart yet weighs a mere thirty pounds. My favorite TV shows are Sportscenter and Pardon the Interruption (ESPN), FoxNews, the History Channel, and NCIS. As far as music goes, I am eclectic —- blues, ska, reggae, zydeco, bluegrass, gospel (both southern and black) all work for me. Irish praise music especially Robin Mark is my worship preference.

Gale and I love to travel. In the summer of 2005, we spent six weeks in Ireland, mostly County Donegal and Northern Ireland, and we could move there tomorrow. We also visited Uganda, Jerusalem and Europe The four places we enjoyed most in our travels were Brugges Belgium, Salzberg Austria , Stavanger Norway and Prague Czech Republic. We also love spending time on the beach and eating fresh seafood especially with our children and grandson.

I began my ordained ministry in 1995 as the associate minister of a dynamic urban church plant in the Diocese of Pittsburgh, Church of the Savior, Ambridge PA. I was called in 1997 to serve as vicar and then rector of St Paul’s Episcopal Church in Kittanning PA. After almost eleven years of ministering in Kittanning, I accepted the appointment of Bishop Duncan to serve as priest in charge of St David’s Peters Township beginning in June 2008. I became rector in January 2010. I was named an honorary canon of St. Matthew’s Cathedral in the Diocese of Misindi-Kitara in October 2012 by the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev. Stanley Ntagali.

Gale and I have extensive experience in missions and evangelism, small group ministry, church growth and children’s ministry. I gave my life to Christ as a young husband and father in 1981 through the ministry of an Anglican priest (the former rector of St David’s!). Gale was converted during the same time in her life. “Ever since our almost simultaneous conversion; the course of our individual and family life and our subsequent ministries has been profoundly directed by Christ. We are fully convinced God want families, children and youth to build his church at the Anglican Parish of Christ the Redeemer”.
